Filitheyo, which lies between two channels on the eastern side of the North Nilande Atoll approximately 60 km south of the Ari Atoll, is a stylish resort that offers a very high standard of accommodation in attractive and well spaced rooms.
The island is covered in dense tropical vegetation; the beaches are broad and beautiful and the island is unspoiled. On occasions, turtles lay their eggs on the ocean-side beach and lucky guests may be able to watch them hatch on a moonlit night. The great advantage of its secluded, exclusive position lies in the unexplored reef, promising superb diving.
Small paths wind their way through the shady interior of the island, leading to the 125 rooms housed in single or double bungalows, each built to 5 star standards, which blend harmoniously with their surroundings, providing adequate privacy for the occupants.
There are 3 types of rooms: Superior, Deluxe, and Water Villas. All the Superior rooms are semi-detached and offer a truly excellent standard of stylish accommodation. Superior and Deluxe rooms are large with partially open air bathrooms. The 94 Superior rooms are built around the edge of the island just set back from the beach at the tree line. The air-conditioned rooms are elegantly furnished with and are equipped with all modern amenities.
The Deluxe rooms are the same size as the Superior rooms but have larger bathrooms with bathtub and are detached.
There are 10 Family Villas which are comprised of 2 Superior rooms that are joined by an interconnecting door. One room has a double bed and the other has two twin beds.
There are 16 luxurious Water Villas built on stilts around the south lagoon. These offer the height of luxury including a large sun-shaded deck. From here there are steps leading down in to the lagoon and an additional platform for sunbathing. The rooms have 4-poster beds and a large whirlpool bathtub.
The Werner Lau diving center was designed by professionals and is superbly equipped with a range of modern and well maintained rental gear. Nitrox is available and Barakuda (CMAS), SSI and PADI diving courses are on offer continually. To get some serious diving done, 4 diving boats (Dhonies) depart daily at 9.00 and 14.30. The various diving spots can be reached within 5-60mins. And day trips to the west side of the atoll where manta rays are often spotted are also available. Around Filitheyo you will find the kind of underwater experience which snorkelers and divers dream of. You can dive on both sides of the spectacular local reef where you will find a vast variety of big fish.
If you want to spend a day doing something else there is a surfing and sailing school on the island, equipped with 'Top Cat' Catamarans and Hy-Fly surf-boards and gear. Or you could go on one of the following excursions: night-fishing, 'Island-hopping' to the surrounding native islands (some of them uninhabited), snorkeling trips and a lot more.
The restaurant run by Chef Brian Logan and his team serves an impressive selection of international and local cuisine. Beach buffets and barbeques including many Maldivian specialties provide further variety to the menu. There is a small restaurant located next to the sunset bar which offers a la Carte dining too.
The bar is located next to the restaurant and offers a great selection of drinks. Close to the main bar is a decked area that leads down to the library and air-conditioned reading room and at the south end of the island are the sunset bar and a beautiful swimming pool that overlooks the ocean. |
